The streets in PA are narrow and the houses and business are right out on the street. Years ago the property owners were assessed their taxes based on the amount of frontage they had between the house and the street so everyone built their house right next to the street. As you can see from these pictures there is no frontage to these homes or businesses so that they could keep their taxes low. All of the Main Streets in the towns of PA are very narrow with limited or no parking on the streets and usually no sidewalks. This is the main street in the town of Middletown PA.
