These pictures are of the streets in New Bloomfield which are wider than most. Not the narrow sidewalk and how close to the road the fronts of the houses are. Here there is a parking lane but on most of them there is no parking.
Pennsylvania Highway continued
As we continue to travel the Highways and Byways of Pennsylvania we continue to find interesting facts and information concerning the Highway system. The other day we were looking for an address along a city street and had difficulty because as we drove down the street in the direction where the addresses were increasing all of a sudden the numbering changed and we found ourselves on another street even though we had not changed our route. The street system is erratic at best and streets names change as you travel down the street. We also find it very hard to see what a street name is because the street signs are not on the street corners but are located about 50 feet down the street. They do this because the streets are so narrow that there is no place on the corner to place a sign. Another phenomenon is the stop bars at stop signs and signalized intersections are way back from the intersection (again about 20 feet back from the corner. Because the streets are so narrow they need the extra room in order for trucks to be able to turn the corner they need the turning radius and the only place they can get it is by moving the stop bars back. On Interstate 15-11 they are doing construction to widen the roadway so they have on ramps with a 50 foot taper and a stop sign at the end of the taper. Try getting up to speed from a stopped condition to merge into traffic that is moving at 45 to 50 MPH with little breaks in traffic during rush hour. Scarrrrrrrrrrrry!!!!!!!!!!!!
